Brass is a durable yellow alloy obtained by adding zinc to copper. Brass can also contain elements such as tin, lead, nickel, manganese and iron. Types containing manganese are called bronze. Brass has high malleability and easy machinability. Alpha brasses containing more than 62% copper are preferred in the production of products such as bolts and screws, while beta brasses containing less copper are used in more durable parts such as faucet valves and door handles.
